Dr.  Ostroff’s Unique Blend of Proven Chiropractic Techniques

Using a combination of Activator* and SacroOccipital Techniques as well as Craniosacral Therapy in specialized cases, Dr. Cathy Ostroff is able to detect joint dysfunction, analyze leg length inequality, and identify biomechanical problems.

A few of the recognized benefits include:
  • An extremely gentle, comfortable experience for the patient.
  • An absence of all twisting and “cracking” of the joints.
  • The use of an instrument that has been extensively tested to deliver low force, high specificity and absolute safety.
  • Over 300 separate “isolation tests” for virtually every bone in the body.

Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT)
Evolved from nearly 50 years of empirical study and 20 years of clinical research, the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT) uses the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations to assess and treat joint dysfunction in the spinal column and extremities for spinal pain relief and correction. AMCT uses the Activator Adjusting Instrument to give consistent, low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments. Over 35,000 doctors have been trained in AMCT and 2,100 doctors are Proficiency Rated, making AMCT the most widely used technique worldwide; a testament to low force patient satisfaction.

* Andrew Weil MD on Activator Methods “Chiropractic sessions using this technique are safer and less painful than those employing dynamic thrust manipulations because the head is kept in a neutral position, not turned or twisted. There is no risk of injury. The Activator method has undergone clinical trials that demonstrate its efficacy. I have found low-force treatments like this one to be reliable and safe, and I recommend them in my clinical practice. I find the Activator method particularly useful for pediatric and geriatric patients.”

SacroOccipital Technique

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) was discovered and developed by Major Bertrand DeJarnette.  SOT became an integration of engineering, osteopathic, and chiropractic principles honed by years of undaunted clinical research.  Using a category system of analysis and treatment, SOT seeks to peel off the layers of distortion to uncover the causative subluxation pattern and remove it. SOT emphasizes evaluation of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation, respiratory function and muscle equalization  as part of the category classification. The basic correction is done with the DeJarnette blocks. The blocks are  inserted at specific angles, one on each side of the pelvis. This specific technique for evaluating and adjusting the spine is a non-force, very effective  method.

Craniosacral Therapy

(CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. It was pioneered and developed by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics.

Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it's effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

The body has a remarkable capacity for healing. Dr. Ostroff’s unique blend of chiropractic methods helps relieve patients’ pain and enables them to achieve their optimal health.
